The Ladybird Chronicles commences a world tour in 2005. Jane Davenport, as the inaugural Artist In Residence of the Wollongong Botanic Gardens created this large scale, outdoors installation to celebrate the beauty of the Gardens and inspire visitors to take greater care of their natural heritage. Jane is accompanying the exhibition on the tour which starts at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center in Austin, Texas and from there travels to different Zoos, Botanic Gardens and Butterfly Houses California, Missouri , South Dakota, Minnesota and Ohio. “Someone has to keep the ladybirds in check!” says Jane. The Ladybird Chronicles World Tour 2005 has its finale in Wollongong’s Sister City, Kawasaki, Japan. Wollongong is regarded as a favourite ‘sister’ and the exhibition forms part of a history of cultural exchange between the two cities. In 2006, the 72 metre exhibition travels to the Royal Botanic Gardens Edinburgh for the International Festival where over a million visitors are expected. Over 4 million visitors are expected to enjoy the exhibition in 2005/2006. |
