In 2002, Don Burke invited me to contribute to his magazine, Burke’s Backyard.
( I even featured on the Number 1 show a few times!).

I wrote my monthly column – ‘Sects in the City for the next 5 years
and  contributed many other articles and cover images.

My writing for my column really encouraged me to investigate the world of insects
on a level I had not delved into so deeply before. I researched each one of my ‘bugjects’
with experts, books and through my own observations in the field.

It bought more depth and understanding to my images I think!
It was a lot of fun, but a lot of work too, so my last article was in 2007.
i needed to concentrate on writing my book, The Garden Guardians!

It was largely on the strength of my work on my magazine articles
that I was awarded the Young Achiever Award from the Horticultural Media Association in 2004.

My book went on to win a prestigious Laurel award from the Horticultural Media Association in 2008.
